Upneeq® Eye Drops: Instant Eyelid Lifting in a Bottle

Up to 11.5% of women and men aged 50 and over may suffer from a troubling age-related condition called ptosis. When you have ptosis, your upper lid droops over your eye, which may partially obscure your vision. In addition, ptosis makes your eyes and eyelids look:
- Heavier
- Older
- More fatigued
The traditional remedy for ptosis is eyelid surgery — known as blepharoplasty — in which your surgeon tightens and shortens the eyelid muscles and removes excess skin. But if you’d like to avoid surgery, you now have a viable and safe alternative: FDA-cleared Upneeq® daily eye drops.
At Aesthetics, by Dr. Lee, led by Luis Lee, MD, we offer Upneeq drops for women and men who want to improve the look or function of their eyes by resolving ptosis. We evaluate your case and, if necessary, prescribe the drops at our Granite Bay, California, office.
What’s Upneeq and how can it help you? Find the answers below.
Blepharoplasty in a bottle
You may have considered blepharoplasty to surgically correct your drooping eyelids. Whether from concerns about possible side effects or injury, the expense, or other reasons, you’ve held off.
Instead of surgically shortening the weakened muscles of your upper eyelid, Upneeq makes those muscles contract. The contraction lifts your upper eyelid so you have full range of vision. Your eyes also look more wide awake, energized, and youthful.
Upneeq is appropriate for mild to severe cases of ptosis. You may see results in as little as 10 minutes.
Use it daily for best results
The effects of Upneeq last for up to eight hours at a time. You can use it daily, or at will. Unlike blepharoplasty, though, Upneeq is not a one-and-done treatment; you must use the drops each day that you want a lift.
You can also apply it to just one eye, if necessary. Sometimes, only one eyelid develops ptosis. You can customize Upneeq to your individual and changing needs.
A simple procedure
Compared with surgery, which requires preparation and recovery periods, as well as high risks, Upneeq is simple. One box includes a -day supply of single-use vials.
Simply wash your hands, open the packet and remove the vial. Shake the vial, open it, then tilt back your head. Apply one drop per eye. Discard any unused product.
Don’t touch the tip of the vial to your eye. Also don’t touch the vial tip to any other surface to avoid contamination.
Wait 15 minutes
Always remove contact lenses before applying Upneeq. You must wait 15 minutes before or after applying Upneeq before administering another medication to your eyelids. That includes Latisse®, which lengthens and thickens your eyelashes for a more glamorous and youthful look.
You also need to wait 15 minutes before inserting your contact lenses. Don’t drive or operate equipment immediately afterward, either. Give your eyes time to adjust to the medication.
How to get started
Upneeq is prescription medication to temporarily resolve ptosis. Although most ptosis is related to age-related weakening of eyelid muscles or prior surgery, some medical conditions can cause your eyelid to droop, too.
Your Upneeq consultation starts with a talk with Dr. Lee. He asks you when you first noticed your eyelid droop and whether it affects your vision. He also conducts a eye exam and takes a medical history.
If he determines that you’re a candidate for Upneeq, he goes over how to use the medication and what to expect. Patients enrolled in clinical trials reported an improvement in the look and lift of their eyelids in 84% of cases. About 88% reported improvements in eyesight.
