I Still Have Cellulite After Diet and Exercise: Is Avéli® My Answer?
You’ve tried dry brushing, massage, heat, lotions, potions, and creams. Diets don’t help. Even weight training doesn’t help. So how do you get rid of the lumpy, bumpy cellulite that plagues your butt and legs?
As experience has taught you, you can’t remove cellulite through topical methods. Cellulite removal actually has to happen underneath the skin, where little tethers of tissue create tufts between your muscle and skin layer.
At Aesthetics, by Dr. Lee, our compassionate and expert physician, Dr. Luis Lee, understands that cellulite is a frustrating condition that may leave you feeling helpless, because no matter how hard you try, you can’t get rid of it.
That’s why we recommend Avéli® for cellulite removal at our Granite Bay, California, office. Is Avéli the answer for your cellulite? Read on to find out more.
Cellulite is real
Cellulite isn’t an imaginary condition, and it isn’t anything you have to live with.
Even though cellulite isn’t dangerous and won’t affect you physically, it can affect your psyche, particularly if you’re devoted to a healthy lifestyle that (nevertheless) does nothing to banish those unsightly lumps and bumps.
Up to 90% of girls and women have cellulite on their buttocks, hips, or thighs. When you have cellulite, you may feel self-conscious and embarrassed at the gym or beach. But cellulite isn’t your fault; you didn’t cause it, and you can’t get rid of it on your own.
Septa are the problem, not fat
The most frustrating aspect of cellulite is that it persists even after you’ve lost weight and toned your body. No matter what you do, you can’t get the skin on your butt, thighs, and hips to look as smooth and sleek as it did when you were younger.
The problem, though, isn’t your fat or your muscles. You have little bands of tissue called septa that tether your muscle layer to your skin layers. These may pull your muscle and skin together, causing the fat that lies between them to bulge outward. If you’ve ever seen or made a tufted pillow or sofa, you’ve witnessed this concept in action.
The tufted dimples are what cause cellulite. You may hear it referred to as orange-peel skin, cottage-cheese skin, or mattress-like. Whatever it’s called, the cause is the same: septa.
You need to sever the septa
Although some topical techniques, such as massage, may work temporarily by softening the septa, the cellulite always comes back. In fact, it never really left, because the septa that caused it are still in place.
That’s where Avéli comes in. Avéli is a minimally invasive treatment that we perform in the comfort, privacy, and safety of our office. It only takes about an hour and has few to no side effects.
After we cleanse and apply an antiseptic to your skin, we administer a topical anesthetic. Then Dr. Lee uses the Avéli device to identify and release the septa that cause your cellulite tufts.
Unlike other minimally invasive techniques that release septa, only FDA-cleared Avéli provides real-time confirmation that the septa have been severed.
Avéli is fast and easy
For most women and men, the treatment time for cellulite removal with Avéli is only about an hour, including preparation. You may have some bruising and mild pain for the first 24 hours.
We recommend that you avoid intense physical activity — including strenuous exercise — for the first few days or weeks, depending on how you feel. We give you post-treatment recommendations to keep you comfortable and to accelerate healing.
Any bruising or tenderness resolves within 30 days. You may also have areas that feel firm to the touch after your treatment, but those tend to resolve within a couple of months.
The benefits of your treatment are immediate, but due to swelling, you may not see the difference for about a month, after the swelling and bruising subside. One year after their procedure, most women who had Avéli still have smooth skin, without visible cellulite.
