Nonsurgical Facelift Q & A

What Are PDO Threads?

PDO threads are tiny needles that are pre-loaded with dissolvable threads that can lift the skin. Once the threads are injected, the skin is lifted in exactly the desired area. The threads encourage the growth of new collagen, which supports the correction without adding too much volume. This treatment is done on the lower part of the face, commonly called the jowls. It is particularly good for patients whose skin is starting to sag in the chin area as they age. Dermal fillers are ideal for middle face treatment and Botox is the preferred treatment for upper face, but those products are not ideal for the jawline. PDO threads can be perfect for this area. From start to finish, PDO threads can be injected in under half an hour in most patients.

How Long do the Sutures Last?

The threads will absorb harmlessly into the body and will dissolve over about a 6 month period. While the threads will dissolve, the collagen that grew around the sutures will remain. This means that the effects of the procedure can last longer than the sutures themselves.

What is the Recovery Time For PDO Thread Lift?

Recovery time is minimal, and most people can return to their usual activities the very next day. Patients should avoid strenuous exercise immediately after the procedure, as this could potentially cause the threads to shift. Minor swelling and bruising may occur, but this will gradually resolve over the days and weeks after the procedure. Patients who want to conceal swelling or bruising can wear cover up makeup if desired.

How Long Does it Take to Get Results?

Results are obvious right away for most people, and the optimum results are evident at around the 2 to 3-week mark. This is usually the point when the new collagen and fibrous connective tissues have had time to grow and attach to the threads.
