Collagen Induction Therapy (Microneedling)

What is Collagen-Induction Therapy?

Collagen-Induction Therapy (also known as Microneedling) uses a pen shaped device with tiny needles that is used to stimulate collagen production in the skin, and has been proven safe for all skin types. New collagen production allows for the smoothing of skin over time, and will break down any new or old scars that also help increase smoothness and improve appearance.

Microneedling helps to improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Stretch marks

It is recommended to receive 4-6 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart, depending on the severity of the condition being treated. Dr. Lee will consider your need for additional sessions on an on-going, individualized basis.

What Are the Benefits of Collagen Induction Therapy?

Collagen Induction Therapy can reduce the appearance of fine lines and even some of the more ingrained wrinkles in the face. This treatment can correct pigmentation problems of all types. Acne scars, other types of scars, and stretch marks can all be effectively treated with Collagen Induction Therapy. In addition to correcting major skin issues, Collagen Induction Therapy can also greatly enhance skin tone, texture, and overall appearance. Many people choose Collagen Induction Therapy as an excellent anti-aging treatment.

What Areas Can be Treated With Collagen Induction Therapy?

While the face is the most common area for Collagen Induction Therapy, most other areas can be treated as well. Popular treatment areas include the neck, the decollete (the chest area,) the arms and hands, the abdominal area, and even the back.

How Does Collagen Induction Therapy Work?

Prior to the treatment, a topical numbing product is applied in the treatment area. A small pen-shaped device is used to deliver the treatment. The Collagen Induction Therapy device has 12 ultra-fine needles that will penetrate the skin as a group. With the creation of the multiple small holes, the skin is triggered to start creating new collagen and elastin. This, in turn, will help fill in indentions, smooth out the skin's surface, and add volume where it's needed.

What is Collagen Induction Therapy Recovery Like?

The recovery after Collagen Induction Therapy is quite short. There is no major downtime associated with this type of treatment. Patients will typically have some swelling and redness for a day or two after Collagen Induction Therapy, but this resolves quickly and without discomfort for most people. Patients should protect the skin with a zinc based sunblock if they are exposed to the sun following a Collagen Induction Therapy treatment.
